The Work We Do Today Can Reverberate Throughout Our Clients Lives April 2009
In 1980, as a young therapist with Harmonium, I worked with a 7 year old girl who was suffering from school phobia. I saw her for about six months until the problem resolved. Recently, I received a phone call (on my home number) from a woman who was trying to find help for one of her three daughters. She was 37 years old and was trying to find the therapist that worked with her thirty years ago.
She vaguely remembered my name but did not remember Harmonium. She was, indeed, my 7 year old client. Shortly afterwards I received an email from a woman living in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. She was a receptionist for Harmonium from 1980 to 1982 and found my book on the web. She contacted me to see if I remembered her and if I knew what happened to all the people she worked with back then. She was the receptionist that kept my 7 year old client occupied when I met individually with her mother. She bought my book and brought the word of Harmonium to her blog. So, I guess the moral of these stories is that the work we do today can reverberate throughout a client's lifetime and geographically go far beyond the boundaries of our service areas.
